Harold Friedman, MD

Dr. Harold Ira Friedman, MD, has dedicated his career to advancing the field of plastic and reconstructive surgery since founding the Division of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery at the University of South Carolina School of Medicine Columbia in 1984. With a robust academic background, he earned his PhD in anatomy and medical degree from the University of Virginia, subsequently completing residencies in general and plastic surgery.

As a professor of surgery, Dr. Friedman’s expertise spans aesthetic surgery, breast surgery, and body contouring, complemented by a keen interest in research on implantable materials and soft tissue interactions. His contributions to the field are reflected in his extensive publications and leadership roles, including past president of the South Carolina Plastic Surgery Society.
